Editor’s Picks 12/13: Marshalling A Rivalry

MARSHALL V. PACKERS: The Bears prized wide receiver Brandon Marshall continued to endear himself to Chicagoland fans Wednesday at Halas Hall with a diatribe directed at our rivals to the north (Tribune).

“I’m not going to use the word hate, but I really dislike the Green Bay Packers and their players,” he said. “I’ve never felt this strongly in sports versus any team or any players. I’m going to play like it’s my last game.”

Nothing unites Chicago quite like Packers hate. “Beat Green Bay” was Lovie Smith’s rallying cry when he was hired and I have fond memories of fans chanting the same line at Soldier Field during a memorial service for Walter Payton in 1999 (Tribune). Marshall’s scathing soliloquy was his latest colorful moment this year. He gave us nudity in the Bears’ locker room (Deadspin) and told us some players use Viagra as a PED (Yahoo!). Oh yeah, he also has 101 catches for 1,342 yards and nine touchdowns. So hats off to Marshall for making the Bears watchable on and off the field, and let’s beat Green Bay. In other news…
